Active in Troop and Patrol A requirement for each progress award says you must actively participate in troop and patrol activities for a period of time. You might wonder why you have to wait when you've done everything else for the award. You aren't really just waiting. The purpose of this requirement is to make sure there is enough time between awards for you to prove yourself. You have to be active in troop and patrol meetings and activities. It would be easy to do this for a few weeks in a few meetings. But its the long haul that counts. You must be active in troop and patrol service projects and outdoor activities, plus meetings. This is also a time for you to help in your patrol and troop. Some Scouts are so busy earning badges for themselves, they never get around to helping others. And part of being a Scout is helping other Scouts. It's not just doing everything for yourself. So, you see, the time requirement isn't something to just slow down your progress. It is a test to make sure your advancement means something. Advancement isn't just doing skills, it's growing physically, mentally, and morally.
